OU student Maggie Trevett-Evans from Llanelli has won the Open University Open/Distance Learning Award at the Inspire Adult Learner Awards 2007, organised by NIACE Dysgu Cymru।After a road accident confined her to a wheelchair, Maggie joined The Open University to complete the degree she had begun at conventional university at the age of 50. She graduated with an Honours degree in Literature and is now half-way through an MA in Literature. Today her skills are being put to use helping vulnerable groups in the mental health sector and supporting and inspiring younger students.Associate lecturer Jessica Davies, who nominated Maggie for her award, said: "Maggie's academic and creative abilities, her capacity to sustain herself through the most challenging personal circumstances, and her sheer enthusiasm for her subject recommend her as a student who might have been made in the original OU mould."
