COL in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is developing WikiEducator to develop free content, and to promote skills and literacy using Web 2.0 technologies. At a January 26 wikieducator Workshop (hosted by the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana) African educators worked with free content donated by the College of the Rockies, British Columbia, Canada to localise for the African context.
As follow up to this event, Commonwealth of Learning in conjunction with UNESCO and FLOSS4Edu will be organising an Open Educational Resources (OER) Content Development for Livelihoods: A training workshop for West Africa experts in the Commonwealth and La Francophonie to be held on the 18th- 29th of June, 2007 at the University of Education, Winneba Ghana.
The participants are expected to come from Benin, Bukina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Mauritius, Nigeria,Seychelles, Sierra Leone and Togo.
The objectives of this workshop would be:
To introduce participants to content development methodologies in WikiEducator
To build capacity in participants to develop content using Free and Open Source Software technologies
To strengthen the FLOSS4Edu West African Chapter and establish expertise groups willing to collaboratively work together in the development of Open Educational Content.
